About the event

Intelligence: Terms and Conditions Apply

The IQ Score Comes with Baggage.

We've been measuring intelligence for more than a century. We've developed theories, revised tests, added indices, and generated an impressive collection of numbers to describe how people think. But here's a question we don't ask nearly often enough: What are we actually measuring?

And perhaps more importantly, what aren't we measuring?

In this thought-provoking CE workshop, we're unpacking the fascinating history, competing theories, and sometimes questionable assumptions behind cognitive assessment. We'll explore how our understanding of intelligence has shaped the tests we use today, what those familiar scores really represent, and where our interpretations may be getting ahead of the science.

Along the way, we'll uncover provocative findings from contemporary research, revisit assumptions we've carried forward from graduate school, and ask whether newer tests necessarily mean better answers.

If direct feedback is not an option, or if you are unsatisfied with the conversation, you can submit a complaint to: JKPsyDFeedback@gmail.com where it will be received by a psychologist volunteer who will keep your identity anonymous, unless you explicitly ask otherwise. See full Complaint Procedure here.
