About the event
Per the Houston Conference Guidelines (1997), psychologists are required to have at least 2 years of specialization to identify themselves as neuropsychologists. While having specialists in our field is critical, there are some cases that will require psychologists to have a fundamental working knowledge of executive functions, but may be completed by a psychologist and may not require a specialist assessment or intervention. This workshop will explore some fundamental concepts of executive functions, how executive functions overlap with self-regulation, and how EF screening measures might be used to inform clinical intervention.
Objectives:
Identify 5 distinct areas of executive functioning that standard cognitive testing does not measure (or does not measure fully)
Explain at least 2 models that organize executive functions into categories
Conceptualize ways of exploring strengths and weaknesses with clients regarding executive functions and develop related recommendations for intervention
